The 4 moments that decide where Nottingham patients book their dentist

Before a new patient ever sits in your chair, they have already judged your practice four times. Most of those judgements happen on a phone screen, in seconds, while you are busy treating someone else.

Great dentistry keeps patients. But it is rarely what wins them in the first place. What wins them is a short chain of small moments, and if one link is weak, the patient quietly books with the practice down the road instead. Here are the four moments, what patients are really looking for in each, and simple fixes you can make this week.

1. The search

Almost every new patient starts the same way: they type "dentist near me" or "dentist Nottingham" into Google. Within seconds they are comparing three or four practices on a map, and the first thing they meet is not you. It is your Google Business Profile.

At this moment patients are asking one question: does this place look open, real and easy?

Quick win: search for your own practice on your phone today, as if you were a new patient. Anything that looks out of date or empty is costing you calls.

2. The people

Dental anxiety is common, and nervous patients are not choosing a building. They are choosing who will look after them. People book people.

Yet many practice websites still show stock photos of strangers and a "Meet the team" page with no faces. That is a missed chance to build trust before the first visit.

3. The consultation

When patients research treatments like Invisalign, whitening or implants, they are not buying a procedure. They are buying confidence: the smile they want in photos, the comfort of knowing what will happen, and the reassurance of knowing the cost.

Keep your marketing in line with GDC guidance and UK advertising rules. Honest, clear, patient-focused content is also the content that works best.

4. The follow-up

Here is the moment most practices forget. A patient has a great appointment, smiles at reception and leaves. They were delighted, but they never write a review, because nobody asked.

Meanwhile, the occasional unhappy patient always finds the review button. Over time, that is how a brilliant practice ends up with a rating that does not reflect it.

Which moment is your practice losing?

Most practices are strong in one or two of these moments and weaker in the others. None of the fixes needs a big budget: just attention, consistency and a few hours of setup.
